Best way to obtain HNC then HND?

Hi chaps,

I've decided to go ahead and seek out the HNC, with intention to get the HND (and later, the masters). problem is that I, and no-one affiliated with the two colleges I work with, no anywhere local to me that delivers this course. The nearest seems to be oxford, which is a bit too far for me to travel and study.
I've considered studying from home, I've experience doing electronics and social studies this way, but I know nothing about the colleges offering this alternative for this course.

I'd like to know if anybody else has chosen this method?
How did it go?
What modules did they include?

Is there somewhere in Berkshire or surrey that delivers the HNC?

Learners are permitted a maximum of 5 years to complete the course. General consensus is 2 years so that's what I'm aiming for as a maximum.

One chap that went through the same course apparently completed it in 10 months!!!!, obviously he wasn't a working chap at the time.

At the end of the day it will take me as long as it takes, I wont be rushing the modules for the sake of it to get them finished, I'll make sure I'm happy & fully understand everything before anything is submitted.

It'll be a marathon not a sprint IMO.

:cyclist:

best way mate, there are no medals for finishing early.
I know you will give it 100% how ever long it takes you be it a year or 4. let me know if you need any journals etc and i will do my best to find them in our library, they have eng hnc`s hnds and degrees here so there should be plenty of material, don`t go buying them if I can get what you need or at least try for you

There should not be too much reading around for an HNC as it is a taught course to a syllabus.
You will probably need some course books, I did for mine.

Phil,
Thanks for that, don't know if the Mrs would go for it, but I would LOVE to do a PhD I really enjoy research and developing ideas.
My last employed post I was responsible for developing engineering ideas into saleable business ideas, I did a few, condition monitoring (predictive maintenance) and retrofits (upgrading our old kit) for our organisation and the way our business worked.
It was a challenge, from a technical, management, business, sales and customer standpoint.
I was well thought of and ended up presenting our "products" to our global teams at our seminars.
The company, who shall remain nameless was a division of a global blue chip engineering firm, that you have all heard of!
It was a real challenge, hard work, but very rewarding.

I'll check out the find funding thing!
Thanks.

Lenny,
I scrolled past your post somehow!
I thought Phil was the one who woke this thread up.
Congratulations and good luck I hope you enjoy it & do well.
Was there no one closer offering a similar course?

Just had paperwork through from college this morning, first year £650, second year £650 with the option of topping up to HND for a third year and a further £650.

What are/did other peeps

These prices seem exceptionally cheap. I am currently sponsoring one of my electricians on an HNC in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at LSBU(London Southbank University), It take two years part time for the HNC and current costs are £2250 per year. I am taking a part time HND in Building Services Engineering and this costs £1850/year over 3 years part time. Both of these courses started at the end of September.

Those were last years prices & it was at a small college, almost in the middle of nowhere. Unsure of this years fee's, no boubt they will have gone up, but £2250 per year is crazy, even for London.

I'm using teesside distance learning and even with the additional maths module the entire course is only £1800.

thats a dam good price mate. if it has gone up its usually just with a 3% rise on a year so should not make much of a difference.
