Just heard the news, from the 1st July 2011 only NVQ Level 3 holders will be allowed to register as a qualified supervisor. Looks like the end of the 4-6 week trained electrician. Thoughts anyone!?

Guess there will be a rush of people getting on a 4 week course before the deadline!!!

Secondly I wonder how this will effect Part P registered individuals when they come to renew their membership and they don't have an NVQ Level 3.

Still all a bit vague for my liking. I would want a table or a catergory box that says something on the lines of- "if you hold the following qualifications xxxxxxxx. Than you now need to complete x y z to carry on ad a QS.
"if you hold xyz already than this is accepted and no further qualification is necessary. "
Until something thisblack and White is done, I'm just going to carry on with what I've got as my job allows me until someone waves a big red stop sign at me.

Well said for lads on this thread!

When will they give us the respect we deserve!

The industry, the electrical trade has got more involved in the last few years.
You need to up to date to the minute with your qualifications JIB cards only last 3 years? it goes on and on.
Other trades do not have all these issues!

Im off down the putting green practice makes perfect....

Does the spell check work on here! I hope so ;)

Phoned NICEIC this morning and the lady i spoke to knew nothing of these changes and quoted that 17th edition was the minimum requirement, then phoned Elecsa the lady i spoke to there didn’t know anything of the changes either, but she spoke to her team leader who informed her, that nothing is set in stone yet and people registered before first of July would not require the NVQ 3 to join or renew. Seems strange to me that the very people administering the scheme don’t know exactly what’s going on!

I phoned the JIB and told them I'd found the domestic electricians draft online. The lady I spoke to had no idea, her supervisor said it was just a document that was part of early discussion.
It does say in the document that wording needs to matched with that of the relevant competent person schemes.

Well said Tony

I mean it as well mate, Ive jacked that job off, if I'm going to work for ÂŁ116.00 a day. I'm just going to scratch about now and pick up domestic bits and pieces, call outs, board changes and anything I can.

Do what the rest try and do. ÂŁ280 for a board change with a full test and put any faults right and be done in 8 hours and come out with a good ÂŁ180.00 in my bin, no 20% deductions either.
