biomass heater connection

Hi all
Hope you can help please.
I have been sent to wire up a biomass heating system and was given a 2 way garage unit and a fused spur and sent on my way after being told it was an hour job. After speaking to the plumbers that were installing it i have gathered that ther is more to it. Obviously i havent wired one before so i am looking for advice or some literature that will instruct me.

I have established that i will also need a room stat, twin channel programmer, wiring centre and other sundry items of cable etc.

The wiring diagram that is provided isnt totally clear.

Can anybody point me in the right direction or have install literature to help.

the boiler being installed is a triarco 28kw indoor/outdoor wood pellet burner.

You need a permanent live neutral earth & switched live at the boiler. The switched live will come from your heating controls ie clyinderstat on the hot water cylinder & the room stat on the central heating.
Not a 1 hour job

Have you wired a gas or oil fired boiler before it is just the same. Most likely a S-plan system.

Forget the Biomass bit, it's just a boiler and needs all the controls wiring that any other boiler and heating system would.

They have asked me to provide a twin channel programmer. Will this replace the independant timers for heating and water. Also why i have your ear, they have said a wiring centre is required. It doesnt explain what and where this is to be used. Can you help me with this.

Ask the heating engineers, what the set up is. S/Y plan etc. Then just search the forum for previously posted diagrams. I am not familiar with this boiler just glanced at your manual and would say that the return from your external controls will connnect to the control terminal. Be careful though as i seen extra low voltage somewhere

Hi from what you are saying I am not sure that you are an electrician, you say you have been sent is this by the company you work for? There are a lot of electricians that struggle with boiler wiring I think it would be best if you had someone who knows what they are doing to help you.

Though if you don't know what a wiring centre, S plan / Y plan is then you really shouldn't be doing this job, UNLESS of course you are only supposed to be supply the power fused spur and then they are going to wire up the control system.

(A wiring centre is a fancy name for a labelled junction block, commonly used and following very much a standard layout in heating control systems Wiring-Centre.pdf )

Though it seems remarkably cheapskate to not have taken the opportunity to properly redesign the heating system, a two channel programmer, room stat, cylinder stat is really not what should be done when re-inverting in a Biomass setup.....
