Bit of a challenge for me

Probably all in a days work for a professional electrician but it had me scratching my head. I wanted to fit lighting into a room but there is an en suite on the floor above, as you can see I made a hole in the ceiling and worked from underneath.

If that JB in the void is going to be used to connect the cables it needs to remain accessible, if it wont be you need a MF connection box

I prefer to use a J.B be it an MF one as a last resort don't like any joints you can't get to.

Seen the diagram Richard has posted which is how I would have wired it using the fan isolator as in part junction box.

How does that help you fuse the PL and SL?

The switch live is just a trigger for the timer the fuse will be in the live to the fan motor.

Is it? Have you got a copy of the circuit diagram for the internal electronics of the specific fan being fitted here?

As in Richard's diagram:

Use 1mm² twin and earth / three core and earth for ease.
Layout is variable but could be like this, if it is a timed fan.

Easier to just use a fan than doesn't need fusing down to 3 Amp

I have only come across very few fans on lighting circuits protected with a fuse this way. I have relooked at Richards drawing would only use fuse to protect fan.

Once you turn off the bathroom light there should be no live on the SW live.
