hey there. just a bit of help needed lads.

ive got to run a swa cable approx 100metre out of back of a farmhouse (clipped direct around 2 metre out of house) then run around 80 metre down a field some of cable underground other parts just run down side of garden probably slighty dug in at places, then into old shed, then into wylex garage unit all backed up with 40amp mcb. i am thinking of using 6mm 3 core. just wondered if anyone knows how to work out how much voltage i would be losing ?

i am using 6mm 3 core so i can comfortablely use 9000w power in the shed

i have done a calc but want to reassure myself a bit as i am not confident. :-s

help please

voltdrop is 5% for sockets ect and only 3% if lighting is to be used. I give u a clue with lights 6mm will only supply a 9amp design current and 15amp if no lights

some people ehh obviously somethings missing in your life if you feel the need to pick faults in peoples post asking for advice... can anyone give me a bit of a guide on what a better idea would be apart from quadroupleing the cable

To lower the voltdrop you either increase the cable size, decrease the distance or lower the amount of current needed.

You can never normally do anything apart from increase the cable size as the other two are set for you.

You wouldnt try painting a room with a cup of paint when a tin is needed because it just cant be done
(sorry if this sound harsh)

I shouldnt say this but the cable i would install is a 25mm 2core, but like i said before you need to consider earthing, bonding and protective decvices

You need to check your voltage drop calcs.
9000kW over 100m on a 6mm SWA gives a vd of over 28V which is over 12%.
That is why you need a larger csa cable.

stop getting narky and listern to people! check your sums 0.32 volts is way off ,tell ye man to put hand in pocket and do the job right !!! by the way most 40 yr old time served sparks have probably forgot more about this game than you know at the moment!

all with the greatest of respect i wouldn,t want to offend!!!!!
