I`d agree a Ze of 61 on a TT is within regs ( rubbish IMHO but there you go) but a Zs of 141 gives a R1/R2 of 80 odd ohms. Thats not possible in a reasonable circuit. So given your own readings I`d say BG were right to flag it up even though they are about as incompetent as is possible.

BG are,in my opinion, setting themselves up nicely for a future run of problems in the vein of the PPI job.It will only take a notable accident or rogue traders type of expo to murder their PR.On a recent visit to a neighbours house,i ran into the "dangerous CU" speech and just to stop his gallop,i asked the engineer to explain the difference between a TT and a TN-S supply. He said he "thought" one came "overhead" whilst the other was "underground",further details were not forthcoming...If i had the handle on their advertising budget,i would be tempted to divert 90% of it to training...

At least they train their sparkies to abseil.

Remember BG is owned by Centrica that in turn is owned by a private equity group and its pure sale most engineers are not happy being pressurised into sales but some take it on with relish like the one who visited me and started to tell me that my control were all wrong and I might need a pressure flush at £750 as funny enough this is not included on the contract I pointed out that I used to work for a Swiss HVAC controls company and then got a glass and bleed key to show him the state of the water in the system as it was clear a bell because it gets flushed out every 5 years and new additive by me

:rolleyes2:

went back today to do some checking and retesting, test results this time (Ze and R1+R2) were ok. only thing I can think of is that mainearth was not originally connected tight in CU so when I disconnected to test Zeesterday it was then put back tight giving the good results today

ps just in case of any libel it wasnt BG ( it was a machine manufacturer) but points taken re BG as normally accurate

Come on, lay off British Gas!
They've got to generate income to pay for all the crappy advertising they're continually bombarding us with.
now now Archy...dont be cynical please....its called `looking after your world` and its all part of the service....
the R1 R2 is way too high....

I get this a lot with BG guys who have a led Socket&See red fail green pass thats why he said over 200 ohms cos thats when he gets his red leds on

yes they did that on me and it cost me a customer !!! volt stick and socket tester , gave the customer a danger notification stating L and E were reversed there were 6 RCD main switches non had tripped , what the the engineer do disconnected the tails changed the meter and didnt re check , i come along re connected the tails plugged in the tester and perfect no a problem , guy had the cheek to tell the customer i had wired it wrong , he had only been a spark for 3 weeks ,talk about a kick in the teeth
