I live in a block of flats and the fuse in the ryefield board to my flat has blown. If there was a fault with my electrics in my flat would the fuses in my consumer unit trip or blow too? The power went out and my consumer unit was fine all the MCB’s and RCBO’s stayed on so I’m just curious if that means it’s not likely to be a fault within my flat and possibly just an old Ryefield board fuse? Someone is due out but I thought I’d ask just so I understand what’s happened better.

Main fuses don’t just blow for no reason.

The cable must run from the rye field up to your flat…. Is there any chance this has been damaged? Might be clipped on wall and easy to spot.

It is possible, but highly improbable that you can overload the main fuse without overloading any individual circuits…. But you would have to be pulling an awful lot of load….

If someone is coming out, they should do a little testing before just replacing the fuse. Hopefully they find something easily fixable.

Did they find anything wrong? I'd certainly want to do some testing before shoving in a new fuse!
No….they said it was likely and old fuse. Replaced. Went back to my flat and switched on each circuit individually and no issues. It’s been fine since. They said maybe I overloaded it but I was literally just sat watching TV. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Did they say what size the fuse was .seen ones with 40s that have lasted for years and then suddenly just pop .
