Hi Members,

This is my first post, I live in South Africa with similar domestic DB set-up as UK & Australia. Yesterday, we had a kettle blow the receiver socket in the kitchen and this tripped the earth leakage switch, I am trying to see if I can fix this, I have sa fair degree of knowledge when it comes to home electrical work. The earth leakage switch keeps on tripping ( it only powers the plugs) I tried removing the affected socket and by-passed the receiver, but to no avail.

Earlier on in the afternoon the EL was tripping whilst we where using a spearate plug to power the lawnmover, im not sure if its related to the issue, but I was able to correct this issue. I highly suspect a neutral earth issue but I cant visually see any earthing at the socket.

How possible is it for me to find the fault here if it is neutral earth?

Thanks,

Hi - sometimes the fault is not easily found without test equipment, sorry. You’ve tried removing all the appliances and can’t narrow it down, next thought - any holes drilled lately? For picture hooks etc? What happens when you turn on the oven?
