if the boiler comes with a plug top, i fit a socket. if not , a FCU.

Never known a boiler come with a flex and 13A plug... but there's always the option of non-standard plugs and sockets such as BS546 round pin. I've used those in the past to supply the boiler and pump on a Y-plan system.

Now you're going to tell me your Grandad has one of those plugs on his flymo!
