Was asked to check main bonding at a friends house today, couple of problems which were easily sorted but they recently had a cast iron wood burner with steel flue fitted in-between the dining room and kitchen which is sat on a stone hearth - my question is should this be bonded? spoke to a part p sparky (i am not yet) and he reckons theres no need, but surely this would introduce an earth potential or am i missing something?

best way to settle this is to get a wander lead and IR test the stove to the MET. if it reads over 22kOhms, then forget it. and i want a t-bone steak off the griddle.

The only possible way I can think it would need bonding is if the chimney (Double-skinned metal for woodburners I believe?) runs through a stud/cavity wall where electrical wires are.

Otherwise you might as well bond all the tins in the cupboard too.

I got a shock of my nail clippers once, wife decided I ought to sit on an earth rod next time. :icon_bs:
