Hi guys

Gone to a house to look at doing a cu change however the client does
Not know were the main stop cock is only the one on the pavement have looked in kitchen and bathrom
But can only find ballvalves for each tap can I bond the water supply to the boiler and do earth cont on pipework under bath and in kitchen

Many thanks

Hi Peter.

This should be fine as long as the resistance when measured is 0.05ohms or below. Also the location of the bond should be noted on the test cert.

Cheers

Hi
Bond the water at ground level as close to floor as you can and as close to the adjacent position of the external stop cock. This will be your best guess and make note of this on the cert. Is there a downstairs toilet or any cupboards?
Don't bond to the boiler because you will only have one bond and if that fails you don't have a back-up and without an earth path your rcd wont work (live to pipework).

Regards

Bit confused by that mate..."dont bond to the boiler as you will only have one"

There will only be one if he bonds at ground floor level too.???

Hi

The boiler should be bonded by the gas bond. The boiler position is too far from the incoming/orgin to be a bond position.

Regards

The OP hasn't mentioned where the boiler is, nor has he mentioned gas/oil.

The gas bond should be by the gas meter. Bonding the water pipe adjacent to the boiler position if the POE is un-doable is fine as long as it is detailed on the cert.

Hi

I would take an educated guess and say the boiler is gas, and it is not close to the point of entry.

Peter bit more info..

regards

I would bond water as near as practicable to where ever it comes in, bond at gas meter, and just for belt and braces cross bond at boiler and make notes on cert that the main stop tap for the water cannot be found.

Not a probelm bonding at gas meter boiler is in loft space so could cross bond there bad access in kitchen and bathroom valves are a pain to get to
