I know this has probably been discussed to death, but..........

I looked at a job to provide electrics for a loft conversion. Part P required as Building control are involved. No issues there.

However i stated that the water and gas require bonding back to CU in 10mm. The customer had a new boiler fitted in the loft by British Gas and the Elecsa spark that wired the boiler controls bonded the gas and water supply at the boiler, back to the CU in 6mm, claiming that is acceptable under the 17th edition, as an RCD is fitted, and bonding is not now required.

Please verify that i'm not missing something.

Eh?? Main bonding is always required, it is how ADS works....it is the cornerstone of safe electrics! Are you saying that the water and gas is bonded together in the loft then run back to the CU elsewhere? If so, that's totally WRONG! As you know....

what i'm more concerned with is that an Elecsa registered sparky (i'm also Elecsa), contracted by British gas, is convincing customers that what he has done is correct.

I'm also getting the feeling that the customer may be feeding me some of the brown stuff. As a week or so ago, i had a call from a woman, requesting that i test the electrics that her husband had fitted in their loft conversion, so that they could get a CofC from building control. I said no thankyou, she didn't seem phased by my answer, as if i wasn't the first person to turn her down.
The guy has boarded the loft out and fitted insulation etc without running cables, although he has left certain parts unfinished. I think he may have ripped the cabling out, to make it look as if he hadn't done it, and his interpretation of the bonding is what is currently there.
He does have some understanding of the regs, but i think it is more what he has been told, rather than what he knows.
