I always found that often there is very little planing in anything domestic, or if there is very little. Especially as a client would have no idea about RCD protection and how it works, or in this case how it don't work, all they know is that it is safer

A customer could get a new CU, because a friend or family member got work done, a nice new shiny CU fitted, and was rightly sold how much safer RCD protection has made the installation, and Uncle Dave you really should get a new CU ...........and away it goes.

For me it is like the lighting circuit without a CPC, your 90% sure if you found one on a survey quote, and started going on about how you really should be changing it, you know nearly full well before you start the talk whether that is a yes or no.

I think you have to cut your cloth accordingly in all walks of life ......... for me fitting something that potentially makes it safer far out rules what a certain reg tells me or not.

I have said thsi before there is not a lot of this up in Scotland in 36 years I have never seen it yet in the last 6 months I have found 2 so do I think 2 MCBs on the same RCD or 2 circuits wired into one MCB and in both cases I took the later as we were talking about 6 lighting points in each property and as said previously switch off the MCB and both circuits are isolated

I agree with ezzzekiel even if he did pick me up earlier when i was brain dead!
Wasn't having a pop, I'm sure you knew and it was just an oversight, just didn't want the op getting wrong end of stick :)

But I stand by original statements, there are two options rewire the offending part or depending on loading double at mcb and if client isn't happy then you have created your own headache for not checking or pre warning client prior.

I found the problem during just changing the light switch for new shiny metal one, I had to leave it as it was, as I have not left it in a unsafer state than what it was, I am going back to carry out more work, non-electrical, and will have a good chat with client, he does seem reasonable, but I will have to go and count his light loads on both circuits then decide what to do, both circuits as I Remember are on 6A mcbs 1.5 cable.
he had a new cu fitted within last two years, but of course no paperwork, so no tracability.
nice new kitchen also with lots of downlighters so that will add up.

No one knows of a unknown way of 2way switching with just two wires? Lol

Yes, there is a manufacturer that produces a lighting design system that uses a two wire system. I bought some for a client about 3 years ago and have never used them since - they made her ELV lighting buzz when used, so we dropped them...... Don't give up.

We just left it as it was, again the customer didn't seem too bothered, dont think she wanted me digging any further.
