UK Bridging from Maintenance to Installation electrician

Hello all

I am looking to start a solar and battery storage company for domestic properties.

My background is in industrial electrical work(12 years). I have a 4 year advanced engineering apprenticeship in electrical maintenance and a HNC in Electrical and electronic engineering.

My question is to move over to installing solar and battery storage in domestic properties is there a bridging course which will allow me to gain accreditation? I believe I will need my Part P to be able to sign off my own work, inspection and testing and some form of solar and battery installation course.

Any advice is appreciated

Thanks

Harry

You will still need the BS7671 wiring regs, and then possibly an additional course in PV and battery. May as well look at EV as well.

Looking at the PV and EV courses unfortunately I will require a level 3 in electrical Installation.

I currently have:

HNC Electrical Engineering
Advanced Apprenticeship Electrical Maintenance
18th Edition
COMPEX

I wonder if the experienced worker route could be an option? Only pain would be the level 3 NVQ getting assessed due to currently working offshore..

Any advice appreciated

Harry

The best advice would be to talk to the colleges / training providers to see if there is any entry route into the courses with the qualifications you have

Hey Harry, with your experience, you will likely need a Part P certification plus a solar and battery installation course (like an MCS-accredited one). Check with NICEIC or NAPIT for the best route. Good luck!
