Can anyone help me with a problem.

I'm laying a 16mm 3core SWA cable to supply an outbuilding and want to connect it to the main supply in my house which is located in a cupboard under the stairs.

As I am also laying a new water main at the same time the trench depth carrying both water and SWA is 800mm.

This trench runs up to main house and I can't find any regs relating to how the supply should enter the building. I had assumed it had to go thru the foundation and come up thru the floor in a room and continue through th efloor space under the floorboards until it reaches the supply under the stairs, but someone has told me that it can come up the outer wall of the house and enter at floor level thru the brickwork.

Does any one know if there are regs governing this?
Thanks

I would say it has more to do with building regs; I would be careful of drilling through or disturbing foundations.
As long as the cable is suitably protected (as you are using SWA you should be ok) I would bring it up on the outside wall.

P.S. Make sure there is sufficient gap between water pipe & SWA (Sorry for the egg sucking)

I've got a good 100mm seperation!!

Presumably its best to enter the building below the dampcourse level?

Below, above if the floor is suspended its not a problem; However if the floor is concreted then you don't want to penetrate the DPC so go above the FFL.

P.S. Don't forget minimum bend radius (more sucking of eggs:eek:)
