Any solicitor would probably say she hasn't got a leg to stand on.... and jus imagine how much they would charge per hour - £160+

Don't remind me.

Mine charged me £900 to sort a little employment matter out between one of my sons and his employer (Sports Direct) a couple of year s back, and I'm seeing him on Monday about changing my Will.

By the time he's finished there'll be bugger all left to leave in the Will !!

It was always an ambition of mine to do a job in a Solicitor's house just for the joy of charging £200 to ring the front door bell on arrival.

Tread carefully just dont lose your rag try set up evidence remember if she cant pay u how she going to get a lawyer as the governments clamped down on free legal representation .... explain to her you are talking to a solicitor and remind her she only had access to citizen advice but no free lawyers anymore then you have turned the tables just keep ahead and gather as much evidence be it txt emails or photos .... i expect getting paid is your first hurdle though.

Take all my posts lightly dont get all Mr T and wade in im talking worse case scenario but can't harm in watching your back and been careful to throwing more money at the job. from what info you provided its ringing all the bells ..personally never had a customer successfully rip me off but knowing a close crowd of 50 bikers helps and it always enters a conversation if i suspect anything whether its true or not its a nice way to play mind games ;) .. im the master of it :)

If only, been ripped off a couple of times by solicitors only paying what they think the jobs worth would love to try the same with them, having said that I found out from a customer many years ago after not being paid by a solicitor that if a solicitor can't / won't pay the invoice value they could be considered insolvent by the court and be barred from bringing any cases to court and all it takes is a visit to the Head Clerk of the Court and give them your evidence, I asked how she knew this and she was a head Clerk before she retired

To the OP I would keep all correspondence and make a note or if possible record any phone calls received as evidence

If you have an Android phone there is a nice free app called Call Recorder that you can download. As the name suggests, it records all your phone conversations... so don't do ringing any kinky sex lines and then leaving your phone where the missus can get to it... :)

This sounds like one of those "why didn't you ask me" jobs, last year a friend of a friend rang me as they had bought a new house and were doing it up,they wanted some sockets and lights added. So I went round for a look and rang them back with a price(mates rates) which they accepted, the next week they rang me back to say the kitchen was delayed due to a problem with the supplier,a couple of weeks later I rang them again and got the same story, anyway I left it in their hands, they never rang back even though I knew it was a real good price. It later transpired that one of their relatives was a spark down south, who had decided he'd come up for a visit and do the jobs while he was up here, luckily I only lost a bit of time going to price it,it would have been different if I'd have bought all the kit.
