Hi all,

I bought a BG consumer unit, but it hasnt got a 20a MCB! trying to find one is a nightmare,
anyone know of any other MCBs which will look okay in the board and not totally different?

thanks in advance!

Nope- BS7671:2008 states you can only put bits in a consumer unit / db that are approved by that mansfacturer

So you need to get on to the manufacturers, and get a list of the equipment they "approve", because without it, this is a completely invalid regulation. Everyone seems to be assuming that manufacturers will only "approve" their own goods, but given that all this equipment is approved to the BS anyway, are they saying that some equipment passed by BS is inferior to their own? I know exactly what sort of BS this regulation is!

What crap`the UK is i've just fitted a Hager CU with the main Legrand the RCD Hager and 5 Merlin Gerin MCB's. Now what can be wrong with that surely they all comply with the relevant standards BS or EU whatever. what the hell difference is it going to make to my install, readings, customers safety. The UK is just getting stupid and no offence but some of you seem prepared to just tag along with whatever they tell you. what crap. PS what do you do in this case. Call out client no lecky its say an MK board you and its the MK RCD thats faulty what do you do trapse round wholesalers getting a MK one or just fit any like spec one.

At my first IEE regulations lecture in my first year of college, the instructor wrote on the blackboard " Regulations are for the blind obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" he then said "it is my job to accept you as the former, and if I succeed in my calling I will turn you into the latter"

But do you torque all the screws to manufacturers instructions? I bet every one of us invalidates the warranty by tightening with a normal screwdriver...
