I wonder if anyone can provide some feedback about the matter of making reference notes in the BS 7671 Wiring Regulations book for use in the BS 7671 exam.
I have searched forums to see if I can find threads about this, but no luck.
I am aware that the general rule is that we are not allowed to make notes in the book, i.e. anything which adds information, or would constitute cheating. However, would this extend to simple reference notes which don't actually contain any extra information? For example, what I have done is occasionally write in the page numbers for various things. Like where the regs advise we need to refer to Appendix 5 for further information about something, I have written in pencil the page number which Appendix 5 is on, so I can rapidly get straight to the correct page.
Similarly, in the index, at the top of each page I have just written in pen the letter which the entries on that page begin with, A-Z, because I have found that when I'm needing to flick through the index to find a particular entry, it can be a little tricky to find the words which are the primary entries (there's lots of subsections if you understand me, so if you're not careful you can find yourself looking at those instead of the primary entries and this wastes time). Having written the letters at the top of each page makes finding the relevant part of the index a bit quicker. Over the course of 2 hours I feel that would prevent time which might otherwise be wasted.
I've already contacted my course provider to check that adding tabs to the pages is okay, and they have confirmed that it is. So I don't really see any difference between that and the references I've added in the actual book itself. I will also contact them to confirm about this, but sometimes they take a while to get back to me and I just wondered if others on here might be able to confirm or not whether they've done something similar or know whether it's generally considered to be okay to do it. There doesn't seem to be any advice about this in the course material which accompanies the online course and exam package I bought. It only stipulates that you're allowed to highlight areas in the book, and use post-it notes throughout the book (doesn't mention anything about writing on them, presumably they mean for use as tabs). Of course it also says you're not allowed anything else in the exam situation, i.e. smartphones or tablets etc, just the book, non-scientific calculator etc.
I hope what I've done is okay, because otherwise I'll need to buy a new copy of the book and add tabs again etc, which would be very annoying.
