On one DB at the O2, there was so much slack, they had to cut the back out of another length of 6 by 6 trunking and fix it on top of the original length.

We have bird's nests around our way.

To be fair at times i have left a ball of cable in several 4 way cu's, due to the nature of our production processes our consume units are often relocated a foot this way or that way so out of laziness we would leave a lot of slack on circuits for retermination at a later date

I can’t believe you allow for moving a DB at the whim of production. “Get stuffed” always worked for me, they don’t ask again.
That said everything had to be in SWA and shifting a DB would result in major upheaval.

What sort of manufacturing are you in that needs things shifted at short notice. (No need for details but I’m curious why things would have to be moved)

We would be involved with the production of electrical appliances. The production line would be changed from one product to another. The electrical suppy might have a metre this way or that way. The production line consists of 2 operators assembling the product (Referred to as a cell). Each cell has a 4way db fed with a 4mm supply, 30a RCD and 2 circuits. There could be 25 cells producing product all fed from overhead trunking which leads back to a main db.

Sounds like you need a consultant production engineer to rationalize the set up. It seems to be creating needless work.

Every time we have a new engineer, we have someone looking to put their stamp on things, the "new" way things are going to be done. But sure it keeps the tradesmen in work.

OK it keeps you in work but I’d soon be tired of going back to alter the same thing time and again.
the problem is you have to work to the spec or you dont get paid.

you can tell them its not right and no one wants to here.

we are had to swap some things on a job today, last there a year ago.

the drawings or the kit they supplied is wrong lol.

we knew it was wrong last year and it wouldn't work and told them that

Did you look for the book? It was reprinted simply because as a guide for the visitor to England it is terrible!

The World’s Worst Phrasebook

Pedro Carolino is one of the all-time greats. In 1883 he wrote an English-Portugese phrasebook despite having little or no command of the English language.

His greatly recommended book The New Guide of the Conversation in Portugese and English has now been re-printed under the title English As She is Spoke.

After a brief dedication:
“We expect then, who the little book (for the care what we wrote him, and for her typographical correction) that may be worth the acceptation of the studious persons, and especially of the youth, at which we dedicate him particularly”.

Carolino kicks off with some “Familiar phrases” which the Portugese holidaymaker might find useful. Among these are:
Dress your hairs
This hat go well
Undress you to
Exculpate me by your brother’s
She make the prude
Do you cut the hairs?
He has tost his all good

He then moves on to “Familiar Dialogues” which include “For to wish the good morning”, and “For to visit a sick”.

Dialogue 18 – “For to ride a horse” – begins: “Here is a horse who have bad looks. Give me another. I will not that. He not sall know to march, he is pursy, he is foundered. Don’t you are ashamed to give me a jade as like? He is undshoed, he is with nails up”.

In the section on “Anecdotes” Carolino offers the following guaranteed to enthral any listener:
“One eyed was laied against a man which had good eyes that he saw better than him. The party was accepted. I had gain, over said the one eyed; why I se you two eyes, and you not look me who one”.

It is difficult to top that, but Caralino manages in a useful section of “Idiotisms and proverbs”. These include:
Nothing some money, nothing of Swiss
He eat to coaches
A take is better than two you shall have
The stone as roll not heap up not foam
And the well known expression
The dog than bark not bite

Carolino’s particular genius was aided by the fact that he did not possess an English-Portugese dictionary. However, he did possess Portugese-French and French-English dictionaries through both of which he dragged his original expressions. The results yield language of originality and great beauty.

Is there anything in conventional English which could equal the vividness of “To craunch a marmoset”?
