Hi guys,

First post on here, so apologies if this is in the wrong place!

Tomorrow I need to install a BT Slave socket from the master, which isn't an issue, but as it's a very large house it will be a good 40 to 45 meter run between the two. Will this be acceptable? Will this still work at this distance? If not what are the other options available?

Many thanks in advance!

I've never had a problem with running by cable for longer distances than that.

If you think about it the same sort of cable could be travelling hundreds of metres to get from the exchange to the property in the first place, so a few extra metres in the house won't hurt.

Will another master point help? I thought the master point only created the 'ring' signal and didn't do anything to the actual signal?

This is correct. The master socket contains ring capacitor for ring circuit (hardly used now, most modern phones are 2-wire are generate their own ring signals) and test resistor.

Use good quality twisted pair cable and keep away from mains cables and other sources of EMI where possible or if you have ADSL and the extension is unfiltered your sync speed/connection reliability might suffer.
