Yup, you are right. I've changed the setting on the outlook express so that the emails stay on the server and it seems better. Quite why it takes my Nokia N8 so long to correctly download too is a mystery - or more likely an undocumented feature of Symbian!
There's usually a choice whether to download just headers, a portion of the email, or the whole email. I normally just get the headers on the phone (and maybe check a few emails). The headers (subject etc) is often enough to determine whether it needs looking at or not.

I've got it set to download the whole email as I always find that better.

Annoyingly its just unreliable at the moment. Think I'll see what happens over the next few days while I'm not working. My "business" email which comes from a different provider all together is still OK.

Why not look professional and buy your own email address 2.99 per year. You can then change your service provider with ease without the cost of changing business cards or van details. http://www.123-reg.co.uk

Bought my domain from them and was using them for a long while but then their servers were on some RBLs (Real Time Blocklists) and so people with anti-spam services were either rejecting or not allowing my emails through. I now have my mail with a different provider (the provider of my webhosting (site is not yet up) and all is fine).

123-reg.co.uk may now be ok though.

I have over 120 websites running with domains from 123-reg.co.uk with no problems and approx 40 sites with easily.co.uk both provide similar levels of service. If you are looking for a high end free of charge E-commerce setup then Magento is worth the effort.
