You don't have an address or postcode?
Or you ask the client to whom they pay their council tax/rates.
You find the cost when you've determined the council by one of the above methods.

local council. charge ÂŁ150 upwards. you have to notify them before work commences, unless you have a mate who is niceic, elecsa, napit , who can certify for you. obviously you would have to invlove him on the job.

if you're not member of a scheme, then you have to pay them, even though you've done all the work and testing yourself, then they send out a 4 week wonder who last month was counting traffic in bus lanes, doesn't know his a***e from his sidecutters and charge you the earth

no. if your mate certifies the job, nic will notify BC, who accept this because he is nic, has been assessed as competent. Nic charge him ÂŁ1.50- ÂŁ2, but no fee to building control.

Thanks mate so if i get my mate who is nic to sign off the part p cert then i can get the nic to assess me from that job?

This is STRICTLY forbidden and your mate would be putting his scheme membership and possibly reputation at risk.

if you read my earlier post, i said that the op would have to get his mate involved in the job, i.e. in a supervisory capacity and test/inspect with him

He'd have to employ him to comply, even sub-contracting has the proviso that the sub-contractor is a scheme member at the same level.

I wouldn't touch someone elses work with a barge pole!

If employed, he'd be covered by all of your insurances and scheme protection, any other scenario and you take the lot on uncovered!

Yeah, just like a bricky who has built a wall or a carpenter that has erected a roof - we don't do their work either

Please, get real, do not let your bad experiences cloud your judgement and make ridiculous inaccurate generalisations. In my office we have have four surveyors, all have worked on site on the tools and in site management, all have degrees, 2 have MBAs, 2 are chartered builders one is a chartered surveyor and 3 have City and Guilds 2391 and 2382. We do know what we are looking at, we can test as required and we are fed up with seeing poor work on site. 7 out of 10 jobs will have a fault generally minor but a fault none the less - normally disregard for safe zones - Don't wory mate its got an RCD is the normal reply to criticism!!

sorry if i came across a bit bolshie in my earlier post. HND, 30 years experience, many hours of studying new regulations, legislation, hundreds of pounds on books , test equipment etc. all counts for nothing against fitting an extra socket outlet in a kitchen.
