Don’t shoot the messenger!
I’m only relaying what I’ve been told several times and I’m sure I’ve read it.

The biggest pity was that the Ashover training centre was lost years back. HV switching with a nature ramble added in. at Radcliffe we weren’t allowed to insert the links in the UG 4 way box, at Ashover I loved the flashes and bangs when I paralleled the LV of two transformers.

In all I’ve spent 1 week at Ashover, 2 at Woolaton and 1 at Radcliffe.

You'll be lucky, it's shut down!

Fo our final exam one team put the links in we removed them so i'd say things have reverted back

Good fun isn’t it!

I was a bit twitchy doing the live phasing out first time. Ashover used the old straight “HotSticks” as we did at work, which I found easy to use. Whereas Radcliffe used the angled sticks which I found unwieldy.

yeah it was, To be honest the course and centre is very good in my honest opinion. Ratcliffe has both straight sicks and angled now the switchgear we used them on was the old south wales Kit pull out push in rack up and **** me that makes a fuss when it's going up!

We used the SWS gear as well, gives me twinges in the groin just thinking about it. back at work it was Reyrolle or GEC gear, still a pain to rack up and down.

When I was there they had a 3.3 Whip & Bourne ACB stored in the yard that they were hoping to do up. Try racking one of them out! The truck stood 5' high and weighs ¾ of a ton. We had 2 of them, it’s a wonder all the electricians didn’t have ruptures. Each one racked out and back in twice a week each to apply / remove the circuit earthing.

This is the only photo I’ve got of a W&B truck after it was modified to a VCB.
