mate if you are full time, then try for a credit card, if you can manage to pay the minimum and are disciplined... even if you get 1000 pound you will be set, remember the money you spend on tools and certs will make you the money back in time, think of it as a investment... that can be recouped the more work you get through going it alone.

i can imagine with under 1000 pounds you can get most things to start making yourself some money....

take some courses on how you can sell yourself. i know salesmen are rubbished, but it is a skill set that is invaluable for any business. if you are a good electrician you will get by ok. if you are a good electrician that can sell yourself, even better.

I was working full time too, i just said they were making me redundant in 3 months time and i wanted to sort out a business for when that happens. They dont check or ask for proof or anything, you just explain that on the initial phonecall saying you are about to become unemployed and they will sort you out. You just have to go on a 1 week course which is quite helpful. All about starting a business, book keeping etc, all free. Then you get given a grant of up to 2k.

Ah that sounds awesome mate thanks for your help. Guns build up a few private jobs and get my name out there a bit then have a word with them :). Did it take u long to get enough work to earn more than you did whilst employed?

No mate, not at all. I got a website built first, luckily my mate is a web designer so got in done for free. Then I used google adwords so my site came top for electrician in derby etc on the search engines. Went into a few letting agencies with my prices and that was it. Works flooding in from just the website. Iv only been set up 4 months. If you can find a weekend job to give you just a little guaranteed income it helps too. I charge 200 per day domestic and 300 per day commercial, was only getting 2/3 days work a week to start with but work is really picking up now. Even 2 days work a week im earning more than I was employed doing 39 hours a week and now im my own boss. I love it!!! Used my grant for a megger multifunctional tester, napit registration and a few other bits. Best thing I ever did so go for it mate.

Sounds spot on to me mate, I Wana do same as you domestic and commercial. Only thing is I have little commercial experience so was thinking of employing a spark for my first handful of commercial jobs to get me up to speed. Reckon that's a safe bet?
