Seen that trick done before,my mate had bought a house and it had been rewired a couple of years earlier, well thats what he was told.one time he asked me to put a couple of extra sockets in while he was decorating,so up came the floorboards and thats when it all went wrong. All the cables under the floor were rubber, but behind each socket was pvc, some devious person had changed all the socket fronts for new and had jointed a short length of pvc to the rubber under the floor. The lights were no better, new switch and back box new pvc up the existing conduit and a choc block at the top to take it back to rubber.

Can beat that one Phil. My old landlord brought a house he was told had been rewired. I was trying to find a fault on the kitch ring (This had been recently done), lifted a board above the CU and there was all sorts of wiring methods connected to new T and E that went to the CU, old single rubber in conduit, rubber twin and lead. The sockets had been replaced but still fed from the lead cable that was originally earthed from the outer lead sheath, no longer earthed since the joining of the T&E.
