I can't comment about other areas of the country but in Scotland, adherence to the REAL code of conduct is the exception rather than the rule. I have written to REAL on several occasions over the last 6 months, but I have seen no improvement.

I have been told there are investigations ongoing but it remains to seen what will result from that and how long it will take before any action makes a difference.

There are some very big companies making a lot of money out of Solar and the first sign of any hassle from REAL results in these companies engaging expensive legal representatives and every point is argued to death. REAL do not have the kind of funds to pursue these companies that these companies have to defend their actions. I fear it could be a long time before they are brought to account.

REAL do have the ability to strike companies of their register as they did with Everest, this did not stop them though as they just started Everest Renewables. It does show however that the big companies are above the law.

I would be happier if REAL did not have the monopoly as this would encourage more actions to be carried out, or it could have an adverse effect where they turn a blind eye to keep members.

As a consumer and based in SW Scotland I raised many concerns re my installation with REAL. They seemed totally disinterested verging on incompetent. Tried to fob me off onto MCS. The REAL code is easy as it should be for a consumer to follow. My supplier/installation had many non compliances(some important to me others less so) so it was really a case of black and white for REAL to take up but no just tried to pass the buck.
