just wondering how old the crabtree c 50s are, and if the type is not on the side how do you determin the type.

I thought I remembered them as an apprentice but then thought I must be imagining it. They should be drawing their pension now! Can’t say I was impressed with them after a mates house caught fire due to them.

they are widley available as a lot of facories ect had them fitted when Tony was a boy n dont want to replace full doards of 100 mcbs for the sake of adding a socket I agree with tony I hate them and LM type with a passion due to the screw fitting and exposed connections either end generaly crud

Crabtree C50 series MCBs are BS3871, older versions available in type 2 and 3 (were very common, but most probably replaced by later version due to unreliability) or later versions type C, rated short circuit capacity M4.5 (4.5kA).

Those dammed things were based on an American design, with a type 3 tripping curve. If any of you have any experience with Yank MCBs, you would never have used them in the first place, ...Crap with a capital ''C''!!

So the general consensus is we don’t like them!

I will post this in a whispering tone

You can also tell which is which by the colour of the markings on them, the earliest versions had white markings & the newer ones had yellow.

Again, ....American design!!! The C50 design, also come in stab-lock in the states. Can't remember who the actual manufacturer was for those C50 MCBs but all the Yank MCB types come in various DB mounting/connection formats.

The ones over here mate are General Electric they all have that lovely stylized "GE" on the front
