Hello, first post here and looking for a little advice.

I've got a letter in the post today inviting me for an aptitude test for this course (C&G 2330-01 Level 2 (FTa) ) I haven't done anything with regards to electronics before. So this'll be my starting point.

Can anyone tell me what the aptitude test will involve? I've been asked to bring a scientific calculator. This is all very daunting. The course is run by a college, should that help any. Are there any mock aptitude tests out there on the interwebs I could download/try?

Any info on what I'm letting myself in for would be a real bonus.

Thanks for your time.

Hi

I started level 2 last september at solihull college and they made us do a 'diagnostic' test. It was basically an online maths test under exam conditions to see if you are capable of the level 2 calculations. If you scored lower than level 2 then they offered additional maths support.

Level 2 maths is pretty much the same as foundation GCSE maths.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.

How long did you have to take the exam? And how did you find the questions? Do you recall how many questions there was? Any that you found difficult?

There were around 25 questions, fairly simple maths (percentages, averages, decimals, multiplication etc).
I scored a full house and I have an E for GCSE Maths. ( Currently redoing that tho!)

If your not to confident with your maths now is the time to brush up on it

Dont worry about it mate I didnt even use my calculator when I did mine ... it was that easy. Dont worry yourself

Takes a load off hearing that. I'm fairly confident with my maths, even though I was the class prat at school, but I searched for a few online mocks, and some of them where P = √3VL IL cosθ type questions.

Had me worried!

Have you done or in the process of doing the 2330? How are you finding it? Are you doing it through a college or a private company?

Hi m8 I am currently doing the 2330 level 2 course. The maths might look hard but it's not as bad as it looks once you get you're head around the formula's. Just revise & practise makes perfect :p

The only units 202 & 203 involve the maths. The rest is just knowledge in the electrical industry.

Hope that helps alittle. :)

Can't do much revising! The test is tomorrow morning! Only got the letter today due to the delays in the postage with the snow! Argh! I'll report back tomorrow and let you know how it went!

hi ear
the maths content shouldnt worry you too much as once your course starts and you see what the equations mean they will all fall into place ;)

good luck today

Thanks, I'll be leaving shortly. My appointment is at 09:15. Just brushing up on how to work out %'s and such!

Well, just back from the test now.

Had a 25 page test, that had Pi, volume, mass, maths and such questions. Then a single page of long devision, with yet more pi, volume and mass. Then a 400 word sheet to write about the context of the course and such!

I'll find out next week if I'm to go back for the final interview!
