C&G 2396, is this a worthwhile course? Alternatives?

Hi guys,

Relatively new poster here.

I was wondering if anyone has done the C&G 2396, and thoughts on the course?

I am looking to further myself into the design/commissioning side of electrical and wondering if this course is worthwhile? I want it to be challenging and push the limits of my knowledge but also teach me a whole lot of new stuff also. I have just completed the 2391 and found that a breeze to be honest, I can only assume it has changed since it was before as I heard many of horror stories about its difficulty.

So for those with knowledge of the course, is it worth doing? Or is there an alternative that may be better?

I have done it and enjoyed it, but if your goal is career advancement then a more thorough course like HNC/HND may be better.

It's a bit like the 2391 is aimed at those with testing experience. It's a refresher with a bit of learning. The 2396 refreshes you on cable calcs and gives you insight into incorporating your basic knowledge into whole installations.

It was worthwhile for me as a sole trader and thoroughly enjoyable, but can't see the advantages for career advancement if your sights are set on a desk bound design job.

Definitely worth doing. Tough exam but can be done. Stick to the C&G one as not sure about EAL!

I enjoyed it and learned a lot, it's not for the faint hearted as the exam I did only had a 40% pass rate and I've heard at least 50% of those who passed will never submit their projects and not actually achieve the qualification.
