Hello i used to work as an Electrical Apprentice then i left to join the Fire Service, i gained a Level 3 in Electrical Installation Engineering (2351)

Im am led to believe this is the old 2330.

My question is, what else do i need to get a JIB card? I cant do an NVQ as im not employed by an Electrical Firm.

Also if i gained my 17th Edition and 2391 would i be able to get a job as an Electrician with my 2351 qualification?

Cheers guys.

As you say 2351 preceeded the 2330. You need an NVQ as well for JIB Grading. (Not sure whether you will have to do the AM2 or not - JIB Registered Apprentices do.)

thanks for the quick reply mate, i dont fancy doing an NVQ as im not doing the job full time, do companys take on sparks without the NVQ?

I would say that most probably would, and then you would be able to do the NVQ if you wanted (or its replacement).

2351 succeeded 2360 and preceeded 2330.

It consists of eight units and is the Level 3 Certificate in Knowledge of Electrical Installation Engineering.

thats wrong i did the 2360 and the college let us do the 2351 for free at the same time

it was mulit choice so most people could pass it and get the level 3

the 2360 was not so many didnt get the level 3

most firms dont even know what the 2351 is !

i got the jib card without 2391 but you need 3 yrs on site

You can get a JIB card without 2391 but you need 2391 if you want to get Approved Electrician grading

What ever qualification you have achieved [2360, 2351 of 2330] you will need NVQ 3, 2357 and 17th BS7671:2008 to graded as an electrician by the JIB. NVQ 2357 can be achieved if you have enough practical experience within the elctrical installation field. You could get expert evidence to qualify for NVQ 2357 and could then exempt you from doing the AM2, which is now called assessment of occupational competence.
