First off I'd like to thank you all for the information that I have extracted from the forum over the last couple years.

I am currently studing Level 3 C&G2330 part-time and working the rest of the week for a solar pv/thermal installation company.
I am a little confused about what to do about further qualifications. I intend to do 17th edition, C&G 2391 and am2 however I seem to get conficting information about the NVQ level 3.

College has told me I am not able to do it with them anymore and people on here suggest if I want to do 2356 I should register with delta etc very soon.

2357 seems to have alot of elements that I have already covered
& also because I do not work for an electrician does that mean my electrical work/evidence/photos I've taken while out doing jobs are useless?

Any replies gratefully received.

yes you are wrong mate. IMO the path to being a qualified spark is city and guilds certificate/ b-tech, HNC ect, then NVQ3 or other relvevant practical training, 17th edition, and 2391 after a few years.

Hi cfx

First of all, you may not need to complete your AM2, at the moment this is aimed at new entrants to the electrical contracting industry and is part of the apprenticeship framework. If you have been working in the industry for some time then you will NOT need to complete your AM2.

You should definately go ahead and complete your 17th and 2391, well worth the effort and time, especially 2391.

You would be advised to complete the City & Guilds 2356 NVQ 3 Electrical and can do this online with training providers such as XS Training for about £550. The evidence you have collected is still worth holding onto and should come in useful when completing your NVQ but you need to note that you will need a supporting witness statement from a reliable and occupationally competent person. If you are considering competing your NVQ online you should also try and collect video evidence where possible for such things as testing and safe isolation etc, much better than photos and proves beyond doubt your competency in these areas..

Good Luck, whoever you decide to go with make sure you register before July this year..
