Gents,
You have probably answered this one a good few times, but here goes.
You have an old C.U that needs changing to an up to date one.
Obviously the customer does not want a re-wire.
What checks can you do on the old or new board to ensure that the existing wiring will accept the new board? It is not a case of " If the new board doesn't work, it's a re-wire" Is it?
Any procedures, tips or hints would be much appreciated!

Thanks Gerry.

Nothing worse than changing an old rewirable board to a RCD new one, finishing and standing back to admire your lovely work to find as soon as you turn the circuits back on the RCD's keep tripping

Changing a consumer unit can cause disruption to the coductors supplied by the old CCU. This requires the installation of a new CCU to be treated as an alteration and so an Electrical Installation Report must be completed and the entire installation inspected and tested for safety compliance with current (17th) Regs.

Once you have completed your shedule of inspections and schedule of test results you can advise your customer of any requirements or reccomendations.

Good luck Gerry!
