still learning.

hi, when the cable has been crimped together using insulated crimps do you still have to put heat shrink over the cable. if yes do you have to do all cables individually (cpc, line, neutral) or one heat shrink tube over all together.

cheers

Regulation 526.3 (iv) advises the use of a compression tool ie crimper, but does not mention any use of a protective heat shrink required.

It is just done out of good practice. Individual with a setion of 9.4mm shrink on each cable and then use a piece of 15mm to cover all 3 conductors.

Piece of advice also stagger the joints, don't half make life easy.

The point of the heatshrink is to return the cable to it's original condition so the heatshrink should be over the whole joint and extend out over the outersheath of the cable at both ends of the joint. Insulating the individual crimp connections is not necessary but would be best practice.

This is correct, what about the IR of the circuit

we regularly use one length of heatshrink to insulate two joints (earth free zones) and there is no problem with the insulation resistance. Providing the crimp insulation isn't damaged their shouldn't be an issue with it.

OK main page is the first page you get when you log on, then choose either general electrical page or theories and regulations page. These pages then have the post new thread at the top.
Hope this helps.
