Just to give you the heads up lads
any of you's use fibreglass cable rods?
one of the lads was using them yesterday and a needle like splinter has went into his finger, the hospital are having a real problem removing it, due to the fact it doesn't show up on x-ray very well. May have to have the full finger opened up.
i know it's a pain, but it may be worth wearing gloves when using rods

Hope it goes well for the lad but it was my understanding gloves needed to be worn with them anyway if the bumph dosn't say they are needed then you may have a case with the manufacturers.... worth a look into IMHO.... and im still using metal coat hangers but they are like gold dust to find nowaday and even came with a ready made hook ;0)

hi darkwood, wire coat hangers are ok but i knew a guy years ago that got a severe shock whilst using one under a floor
mini trunking lid is good, drill a hole in the end and you can attach the cables easily

Im going back many years before cheap trunking and alterative that worked, was just a nostalgic quip' and you always learnt to look before you shoved a coat hanger under boards you suspected of having live joints or lighting points below.

I've found that the fibreglass rods work a heck of lot better than pieces of lt trunking lid. However, I have had one that fractured on a job and noticed the razor sharp fragments that can get caught in and under your skin - not very pleasant to say the least.

So I hope that the doctors can remove the splinter from your apprentice's/colleague's finger without too much damage..

Good thread this, I use a set of crappy cheap rods and never ever thought about broken pieces causing problems.

So far I've only managed to break a couple of the brass end screw fittings, will definitely be wearing gloves in future...
