Any possibility of persuading the client to have the switches moved round the corner to the side of the wall rather than the end? Or how about an empty back box and blanking plate, level with the switches and round the corner beyond the end of the RSJ. Run the cables horizontally to the new box and then vertically to the ceiling, all in safe zones and avoiding the RSJ.
