Hello,

I have a farm where electricity source is about 240 meters from the well , at which I already have installed a 30hp Grundfos submersible pump. I have laid a 50 mm cable from the source to the control panels on the well (240 meters 50 mm cable buried ) , and then I used 35mm flexible cable from the control panel to the submersible pump about 210 meters deeps.

It has been installed since a year wit no problems , and I wanted to use an irrigation pump (10 hp) near the area of the well , question is Can power this pump from the same 50 mm cable used for the submersible pump ? i.e. about 55 amps for the submersible pump and 15 amps for the irrigation pump ?

Thanks

Two questions 1/ Does the submersible pump supply the pumped water to a storage tank??
2/ Are both pumps going to be used at the same time, or only one pump will run at
any one time

1. Yes.
2. Yes if possible , my other option would be to use a controller to be sure not both are automatically switched on , but I would really prefer to have them both on at the same time , to increase the efficiency ,,

Thank you

i'd say that the existing 55A is about your max. current draw, taking volt drop into account.

At 240 meter's and 55 amps you are pretty much at 5%(approximation BS7671), not taking into account the further 210 meters to the pump.

If we move away from the 5%, Do you have your own Transformer? If you can calulate from source.

Cheers

That was going to be my next observation This 50/35mm cable is already past its limit when taking VD into account, and won't be doing the pump it's currently supplying any favours either!! To be honest you need to run another cable, and if you use another 50mm you can then use the present cable in combination with the new cable (eg Parallel supply). Either that, or calculate whether you can achieve your needs via a suitable TX close to the well/tank installation...

Agreed,

I think unless you have a dedicated source, you run the risk of issues, what is the minimum voltage the loads can run at?

cheers

I would like to thank you all for your kind assistant .. I guess I will stick to the second option , i.e. controller to be sure only one pump is on at any given time ,
