I've come accross a few jobs where 2D light fittings control gear has gone (after only a month of being installed) and i noticed that the cable feeding them were larger then 1.5. On one it was wired in with really think flex that you'd normally use to wire in a 3KW storage heater. Just wondered if using thicker cable like this actually damages the control gear, being less resistence and there for more Amps. Apart from it being un-neccesarily large for the current needed.

Cheers

Ben

I must admit it would hurt more getting hit round the head with 10mtrs of 16mm T&E than it would if it was 10mtrs of 2.5mm T&E but that's nowt to do with ohms / volts / current or rasins in fact!!!!!!

After reading this thread, I agree with whoever said it's a dodgy batch of fittings.
otherwise if you were increasing the conductor size due to thermal effect, volt drop etc.
I have worked on a few projects years ago where the lighting was wired in 2.5 and general power (32amp ring mains) was wired in 4mm.
