Discuss Cable tiles in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

Only the local councils will probably use them, or there official contractors, in and around domestic premises. I doubt if most domestic installers even know about cable tile/brick protection requirements for direct buried cables, let alone use them. ..lol!!! Going purely from the threads on this subject here, you will be lucky to get direct buried cables down to correct burial depths

I haven't used tiles since I don't know when, we usually use plastic ducting, so if a cable (armoured) requires replacing/upgrading it is still accessible.

Depth ?, recommended 600mm, although I have not seen an actual reg for this I was told this is the accepted depth as of the 17th ED, I think the recommended under the 16th was 400mm, but as far as I know, this can be relaxed depending on the circumstances, ie at borders unlikely to be disturbed by digging, under concrete, common sense etc.

Regs just say at sufficient depth to avoid damage, I was told "at least two spade depths" on open ground with marker tape at 150mm above the cable/duct.

Iam now reaching for my tin hat, as this was what I was taught, and I know many people will disagree with the advice I was given.

Been using the standard 600mm burial depth (Internationally recognised, and i think still used by the DNO companies) now for more years than i care to remember, and cable tiles/bricks are Always part and parcel of all the cable trench backfill make-up on all my projects. I don't think i've ever been on any project during my years in the industry where the specifications didn't call for cable tiles/bricks and warning tapes....
