Cables in Cellotex

Hi

I have to install some Lighting cables in a roof void with good acess.

The Client wants downlighters installed in each bedroom ( 4 per room) The roof void has three sheets of 50mm cellotex installed on the plaster board.

The plan was to cut squares out of the first two layers of cellotex to allow installation of the Down Light and Leave the Third layer covering the hole. Still using Fire rated MR16 downlighters.

The Roof Void has Bats ( and they to continue to live in the Roof Void Local Authority Protection)

So the Cabling needs protection from the Bats ( Droppings etc) Was wondering about just laying the Lighting Cables between the Cellotex Layers but should I put in plastic Conduit as well or put the Cables in Plastic Conduit on the Top Layer ( exposed to the Bats)

Thanks in advance

Personally------------Aurara Sola downlighters , cables between layers ( cable calcs!! ) unless you want to do it in conduit and singles instead of twin skin

plastic conduit on the top. bit worried about the cellotex directly above downlights though, nowhere for the heat to dissipate. have you and the client considered LED downlights?

Personally, i would install the PVC conduit on the top layer, exposed to the bat droppings!! It should be pretty obvious to you, Why you would install your circuits so!!! Not sure you should be leaving any insulation close to these down-lights, the heat generated by them will soon be melting it!! the fittings maybe fire rated but the surrounding areas are not!!!...

snap. what bugs me is the client spending all that money on expensive cellotex insulation and NOT installing it between the roof rafters.

Keep the down light Fitting covered from the Bat bits was the thinking.

LEDS not on as still horrible colour temperetaure etc for general lighting use ( ok for feature lighting)

Will now think of Cutting through the Cellotex and Fire Hood over the fitting to protect from the BATS.

Now thinking Flexible conduit on the top with Single core wiring

Tel, probably because a warm roof space is harder to achieve, condensation and all that.

Regarding the downlights, manufacturer spec should give clearance distance, as others said leaving the top layer over the fitting sounds rather close. I think you may need to remove an area of the top layer, possibly, maybe.

what condensation? insulate at the top, keep the loft as part of the house, not the outside. you pay rates on it, so why not have it usable?. tyhe heat from his downlights will keep it nice and warm. and the bats would appreciate the warmth as well.

warm white LEDs are OK. hate the cfl crap. anyway, downlights in bedrooms are gross. wall lights with dimmers are far sexier

This is in an attic with the Appex being dropped to a Flat Level. There are also pendant fittings and stuff

Not as sexy as fibre optics!

and those little coloured leds about the size of a 5p. bit of a pain for the filming though, not enough light for the camcorder.
