Hi there,
Part Rewire of a 250 yr old property....beams and rafters, low ceilings everywhere!!
What are the regs.....if any, in regard to proximity of a cable (T+E) to a heat source. It's a rangemaster oven. The cable is clipped above the oven on the ceiling rafter. The kitchen has a low ceiling hence the question.
They are also installing a very nice copper bath. Would it be wise to bond this?
Dual RCD board.
TT Supply.
THANKS>

I dont want to teach you to suck eggs, but all this is in the OSG and BGB. You are taking on a large and difficult job. May i respectfully suggest that you do some home work. I dare say that these are not the only problems you will face doing the job, so it is in your own interest to be able to find the info you require.

Cheers............Howard

A little harsh i thought.

Dependant on size of t&e can't you use fp if it's 1leg on a circuit and you can't see it
Also I don't think they would be happy with a green and yellow on a copper bath as there's no requirment and you state dual rcd
Tin hat on

These are the ONLY 'problems' facing me. More than competent to carry out rewires just unsure on 2 items. Have checked regs about bonding so thats ok. Thankyou for the useful replies, I appreciate it.

AA5 is considered the normal ambient temperature range of +5 to 40°C for external influence. If the ambient temperature at the cable exceeds 40°C you should consider the need for shielding of the cable (e.g. conduit or trunking) or one (or more) of the methods (or other equally effective method) listed in BS7671:2008, Amt 1:2011, 522.2.1 if you believe that the external influence will compromise the original design assumptions for the current carrying capacity of the cable or degrade its insulation.

i know it is nice to be nice but when someone starts a "how to thread" on a rewire you really have to wonder if they should be doing it,

just an observation

now, i would have to query whether or not to bond a copper bath. something i've never come across in 30 years. be fair to the OP. we all find something that we are unsure of at times.

Maybe I have misunderstood this scenario, but how is a cable clipped above a cooker on a (low) ceiling, near a heat source?

'Near' a heat source would surely be a flex going into an immersion, or run along side CH pipes?

have you felt the heat off a rangemaster hob when it's going full belt. can spit roast a pig 4 ft . above it.

You could say everything is in the BGB or OSG we would not have a forum then!
