What do most of you do in this situation? Whats best practice?

if they can be jointed in CU, then through crimps. if way too short, adaptable din rail box with din rail terminal blocks makes a neat job.
 
If using crimps, I can't seem to find any crimps that take larger than 6.5mm max? Where can I purchase crimps for 10mm cable etc?
 
i wouldnt advise using crimps in a CU its a bit rough tbh can you relocate it some where diffrent? been to a few where previous electricians have used block conectors and left loose wires in with bare copper mm away from the buz bar. even seen them where people have used pvc sigles and tied them to the exsisting cables in an attempt to make them longer.
 
If crimped properly and you have enough space in the new consumer unit to dress the cables round (as opposed to a mass of tangled cables and crimps which is not good) then I dont see a problem with through crimps. It is not always possible to relocate easily and if restrictions of space and/or visual appearance apply then your client may not want adaptable boxes on show. You will have to take a few things into consideration and work out the best way of doing it.
 
i agree with delboy not ideal through crimps but nothing wrong with through crimping cables as long as its a good connection and its as neat as you can get dont see anything once the covers on

As far as i can see, it's about the neatest option available to you. Certainly wouldn't use screwed connector blocks or Wagos in a CU, now they will look rough in a CU...

Absolutely nothing wrong with thru crimps, so long as you use good crimps and more importantly a good crimping tool. I prefer to use uninsulated crimps with correct colour heat shrink tubing, but i have also used coloured heat shrink insulated crimps. I really can't say i've had problems with either method...

i generally try and move the CU position towards the direction that the cables come in, if possible, a few inches can make the difference between jointing and not jointing. not always an option, though.
 
How about you fit adaptable junction box where cables enter c.u with one side of box against c.u,if pracical. I.dent cables.Pull cables back to the junction box, connect to klippon terminals in box. Cables out other side of klippon terminals to protective devices and n/e terminals in c.u.
