hi all

which code PIR / EICR would you advise for cables sitting on a suspened metal grid ceiling the generally the type installed in offices

any input appreciated

yeah and this is in a development 5 years old as well and the full install is like this nightmare and the remedials will probably be left for us to sort out !!

Is the suspended ceiling metallic? there would a requirement for earthing. Generally though, cables need to be clipped, strapped to tray, enclosed in conduit/ trunking etc to prevent strain amoungst other things. If its a metal grid, no earth, cables strewn everyone, crossing cables of other voltages etc, I wouold amount that to a code 2. getting over its a pain. i have used the plastic plugs which you knock into the ceiling and they take a tie wrap.

What are we earthing here?

Not really acceptable, but happens all the time.
There is a potential for cables to become snagged on the edges of the metal grid, and a very good chance that the ceiling will become overloaded if too many cables are layed on it.
I recall on one job someone being left up a ladder halfway through the ceiling attempting to hold up half the ceiling while myself and a couple of collegues fell about laughing taking the mick, as you do.

isit a judgment to what happens up above ceiling... like no one should be up there so should be ok... just guessing here but doesnt sound correct installation method to me

cables bunshed and grouped with fire alarm cables and television cables which code would you advise for this is on a peroidic done at the end of last year
???? see pic below
