hey guys, i need to floodlight a practice green at my dads golf course, just need a bit of advice on how much lighting will be needed!

the area is about 2000m2 and obviously needs to be fairly bright, the lights will be elevated on poles. i was thinking maybe 6 x 500w metal-halide fittings set evenly around the green? dont know if this will be too much cant find any info on working out wattage needed on the net.

any advice much appreciated!

What is the length and width of the area? The m2 measurement is not precise enough. Also what is the intended mounting height? I recently did a small private practice green to 100 lux using 400 watt Metal Halide floods. I will try to dig out the scheme I did, if required?

That would be great thanks. Its roughly 40m x 50m. was 100 lux bright enough? im not very up on lux levels havent had much to do with them, just dont want to buy twice if its not bright/too bright. the intended mounting height is 10ft.

I would recommend that you mount a lot higher than the proposed 10ft. At such a low height with these floods, the glare will be unbearable. I would consider 4-5 metre minimum, the higher the better.

i did a horse exersise paddock last year, relaced 8 500watt halogens with 4 250watt metal halides. area was about 100ft x 50ft. mounted at 12ft. was good enough for the purpose, maybe for finding golf balls you need it a bit brighter.
