calibration of testing equipement

Is it really nescessary to calibrat testing equipement every year. When it is done to multimeters and the like readings before calibration and after are the same so what is the point?:devilish:

You will find over time that there will be a variance usually cause by the accessories. For example you multimeter leads from wrapping them up wil eventually damage the wire changing the native resistance. So yes I should say that a yearly check is worth not making errors on readings.

It's like your car MoT - If it passes it didn't really need doing but you have to have a piece of paper.

you also protect yourself by having it tested outside as it where
the unit may have other faults that you have not noticed
if it goes wrong you could end up getting fried!!

Well this year in my assessment he never even asked to see my monthly checks, but yearly yes you need it

do i need a checkbox for my elecsa assessment and monthly checks etc

I dont have a dedicated non rcd socket in my house and no spare ways to do one
so to do the full range of tests what type of checkbox etc would i need to get
any help/ advice grateful mate

I had my trusted fluke thermometer checked for calibration and it came back with a document stating that it was under reading by 4 degrees at zero and boiling points. I didn't believe this and checked it in a flask of ice cubes stirred in a flask of water result, 0 degrees shown.

I then checked it against water boiling in a pot, result, 100 degrees shown. I live at sea level so no correction for altitude was neccessary. I contacted the calibration centre complaining and they sent a rep with a calibrator, which bore out my readings.

what do you suppose happened? they sent a calibration certificate that stated my thermometer met requirements provided that it was used at sea level.

sod calibration companies I will defend my equipment in court with science. (also posted elsewhere)

try these ones which i found on ebay, they come to your home and issue the certificate there and then.
