Alright lads,

can anyone recommend somewhere to get my MFT calibrated ? ive tried google but not finding much help. I live in Basingstoke btw.

thanks.

ring mike at 0SCS. he will come to you, so no postage costs and no down time. 01522 703002 or 07776 200146

sorry, eng. he does a full traceable calibration test. i can vouch for that.

We have loads of wholesalers in basingstoke, any of them could help. Yesss electrical has just opened on winchester road, have yet to try them though

Tel, i'm not saying that he doesn't actually test your equipment!! lol!! But how does any of these guys comply with the standard ambient testing temperature, that is stated on every calibration cert, as being one of the testing criterias?? They can't, either or both bits of test gear (yours and his)will not be at the same temperature, nor will he be able to verify a stable ambient temperature or environment (humidity). I'm not making this up, check your certificate, it will state somewhere on that certificate, about the testing was conducted in a temperature controlled environment!!

The temperature thing, is one of the main criterias of a testing lab. We have an accredited calibration testing lab on site, not just for electrical test kit but for all site equipment that needs calibration and certs. The temp and humidity within the testing labs are finely tuned and monitored. Any electrical test equipment that comes in for calibration will normally have to sit in that lab for 6 hours or more, before any calibration tests are performed!!

see your point. that also relates to all the wholesalers that have calibration days then. you walk in with your MFT at . say 5deg.C as it's been in the garage all night, into the wholesalers at 20deg. all done and dusted within 30mins.

LAB!!! You mean living room at worse and workshop at best.....do you really think that 1% of all these "testing centres" have labs.

I've got a check box and a check card as well as my annual certificate, il be the one who checks the accuracy of my equipment thank you very much.

If temp and humidity (practically) has such an influence then shouldn't we get them calibrated seasonally.

Would testing in a void during the winter give different results as to testing in a house on a humid sunny day?

valid point. if . say, your tester is tested even under the most stringent lab. conditions, the humidity will be low and the ambient temp. around 20-25deg. then yo roll up at a customer's premises, mid winter, and start testing with a MFT that's around 5deg.

Were only talking here about the calibration criteria, to ensure that at the time of testing, the unit under calibration verification the conditions are consistent with the laid down standards.

When i say lab, you can take that description as you want too, in most cases it will be an environmentally controlled room or workshop. lol!! All accredited testing labs/workshops have been inspected by an official body and should be regularly (probably annually) inspected to maintain accreditation.

All i can say is that these laid down rules/standards, are being flouted by many of these operators. You could also say they are fraudulently issuing calibration certifications, as they aren't complying to the standards they are issuing these certs against...

Our labs have been accredited to Aussie National Standards, and i believe an assessor comes over every 6 months or whatever. Talking to the guy, it seems he has a good few manufacturing factories over here (in this province) that he covers too!! His company has a dozen or so inspectors that covers all the major cities in China...

I used to work for a company that required test equipment calibrating to UKAS standard, which is a fairly stringent accreditation for a cal lab to obtain. This being said, I've seen UKAS certificates in the past missing the most basic of instrument checks which is ridiculous when paying substantially more to have intruments calibrated to this standard.

In personal experience. I perosonally believe it's all being well having an instrument calibrated within a temperature controlled lab in a dust free atmosphere, but when substitute leakge tests, earth bond continuity tests or even a supply voltage have been missed off a certificate it raises eyebrows! Self kept checks are a great way to make sure instrumentation is giving true readings.
