Just inspected a shower, found someone used 10mm yellow/green cable as live and neutrol conductor, the csa is no problm, but does yellow/green cable has the same insulation sheath with grey cable? i assume this is fine, but hope to get some confirmation...

cheers

A CPC (circuit protective conductor), should NEVER be used as a live conductor.

What sort of cable is being used then? You mention 10mm cable and grey cable ???
Is the cable being used not a 10mm pvc with brown , blue and earth?? Or is it swa ?

Thanks and regards,
Sav

Sounds to me like they are 10mm² singles (6491x) as they are both green/yellow.

The insulation is the same as any other colour singles.

yes, they are in conduit, i assume the installer was short of grey color cable so just put 2 no 10mm yellow/green cable and 1 no 4 mm earth cable inside

Ahhh, I see. Still though, the earth (green/yellow) should not be used as a live conductor.

So does that mean the shower does not have an earth supply? Is it a plastic shower, as in no metal exposed parts ?

So whoever installed the wiring used 2 x 10mm green / yellow 1 x 4mm green /yellow ???

Is that all they had in their van !!! Was screwfix or any other wholesaler not open that day !!!

How did they terminate at the board then or the isolator?? Did they bell each cable out !! Very suspect to me and definate code 2 to say the least .
What do you guys think?? Am i going over the top and all is ok?
Best regards,
Sav

It is prohibited by the Regulations.

A green/yellow single core cable may not be oversleeved and used as a live conductor.

You could argue that it presents an immediate danger.

514.4.2 "Single core cables that are coloured green-and-yellow throughout their length shall only be used as a protective conductor and shall not be over-marked at their terminations, except as permitted by Regulation 514.4.3 [use as a PEN conductor]."

 as its in conduit, shouldnt be too hard to pull out and do properly. As said on previous post , doubtful it was ever tested and if it was a new circuit how were certs issued?? if at all. " rip it up & start again"!

Earth cable g/y sleeving should never be used for LINE conductor NEVER

Can't be used as a live conductor. The use of a green/yellow single core cable for a neutral conductor is equally prohibited as its use as a line conductor.
