The lamp holders have melted and the landlord wants to see if they are repairable.

yes they are g4's they don't seem to want to come out of the ceiling when he pulls on the square fitting. that's why i wanted to id the make. I'm going on Monday so I wanted some idea of what I'm dealing with.

They look like this kind of thing:
Mini Downlights - Low Voltage - https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Lighting_Menu_Index/Lighting_Downlights_Index/Mini_Downlights/index.html
It could be that they are held up by spring clips which hold down onto the plasterboard and they come out if you pull them hard enough, or they could be held in by springs on the side which wedge the fitting into the plasterboard.
This is all assuming the clips haven't broken off and been lost, and the fittings superglued onto the ceiling.

It's a wooden boarded ceiling. I was wondering if it was some sort of clip behind the fitting and the paneling would need to come down to access it.

I would expect them to fit to the board in the same way they would fit to a plastered ceiling.
You could maybe take one of the boards down and have a look?
