i am going to put a spur from a ring main for my niceic inspection, the installation is proteted by 1 rcd over 2 cu's is this ok? im not wiring a new circuit just taking a spur off of the ring. Does the ruling of the 17th where you should have 2 rcds in place come in to play? the installation is around 15 years old.

Matt, i`m sure this has already occured to you & that you haven`t is probably due to lack of time before your assessment, but...

have you not got a less compromising minor job you could present them with?
Don`t want to alarm you, & the Assessor you get will hopefully be real-world enough to give you credit for atleast considering the various alternatives, but can`t help but think you might be bringing trouble to your door with this one, mate...

Either way, good luck with it

Al

passed the inspection no worries!
the main thing he said was that it was protected with a 30mA rcd and that everything was ok earthing wise. In an ideal world you would fit a 17th edition board

Basically they were just testing related questions there were none to tricky.
Questions like:
which value do you put down for the pfc (Higher of the 2)
rcd tripping times for domestic installations
your allowed to look in the regs and onsite guide for any your not sure of.
the guy i got was a nice bloke, very knowledgeable and i learnt a few things today!
just asked what the values related to and wether they acceptable etc.
have a good read of the oniste guide and GN3 for a couple of weeks beforehand and it will make it easier!
Good luck if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask
matt
