my dad in law , has one outside security light and wants me to fit an extra one. this will require a spur off the existing circuit and about 5 meters of cabling on an outside wall. can i do this work or does it come under part p?

Before you get an answer, one for you to give first, can you actually carry out this work with confidence and do the Job properly.

yes the job is not a problem for me. i have c+g 2330 electrical installation and 17th ed , but i work in industrial and just wondered what the regs are on this type of work now?

So we have established that you are competent to carry out the work. My only question would be, do you have the equipment and knowledge to carry out testing of the circuit once work is completed?

Hi Guitarist
I have a DMM and Megger , so can check continuity and insulation tests

However will Part pee allow a new external light to be installed by a non approved contractor? hmm , I await the OPs reply with bated breath haha

this is what i would like to know really, how much are you allowed to do without a part p cert?

Check out the "Planning portal" website. I dont think you need to notify (part p) the new light if its attached to the house and run from an exsisting circuit but you will still need to test and produce a MWC.
