K

knows nothing

hello guys

i have just bought an american swimspa (its like a hottub with a 'moving' swimming pool combined into it) it needs a 50 amp supply, can this be wired into my house ok?

just hope he/she is not the one who plugged it into a 13amp socket and it kept popping the mcb & refused to pay 299.99 for a sparky to wire it up then offered me 50.00 to run cable from ccu to 32amp plug/socket in garden ...

new ccu
new tails
new 6mm swa
new clips
new dp isolator block

it all adds up ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ

thanks for the comments guys, i am in haverhill near cambridge.

the machine has not arrived yet (6 week delivery) i am just trying to sort it out before it comes! i have a workshop 50 yards away with 3 phase if i cant take it from the house but that would involve a lot of trenching so i would rather avoid that!

What other large current using devices do you have in the house, ie shower, cooker.

Does your main fuse have a rating on the side of it?

How old is your current fuseboard?

As stated would need to have a look, EDF may upgrade the house supply to 100A.

Click on my website link below for contact details.

I would be happy to have a look, cannot promise getting it done in your 6 week timescale (really busy at present) but at least give you an idea of cost.

i just looked at the fuse board and it is a 60 amp supply into the house. i gues with cookers, tv's, firdge freezers etc that will be fairly well used up!

i am a farmer and have a variety of electric points on the farm, the closest other electric fuse box is about 50 yards away and has 63 amp three phase and is about 7 years old when the stables where re-wired. the box is only running lights in some stables and two occassionally used plug sockets which are never used for anything more powerfull than hair clippers (for horses). would this be a more suitable place to take the power from?

But the cost of the cable over 50 metres (not worked out but possibly 16mm swa), plus rcd board (if not fitted) etc
if the house is much closer it may be a better option to have the supply upgraded...how are all these other supplies fed? are they all independant fed/metered?

they are independently metered. i have 4 meters on the farm!

i reckon that even if the system was ugraded in the house the distance from where the power comes into the garage would probably be similar to taking it from the stables.

Then it is prob the best option to the 3-phase supply...as an after thought; sometimes heating appliances can be connected 3-phase. They give the option single phase connection or 3-phase connection, if only a single phase supply is available all 3 line terminals are looped together. But of course you will have motors/pumps as well, these will be single phase....but you never know, they could be tapped within the switch gear of the spa.

Its worth asking the manufacturer, it would greatly reduce the size of cable needed if a 3-phase connection is available

First thing is to get someone out as Jason said and do a Survey and have as much info on the unit as possible like specialy as its an american unit (Possible voltage 110v) not cte ect
